Breakdown
60 Go is a vertical shot play out of Shotgun Trips with 10 personnel that stresses the deep thirds of the defense. The backside single receiver runs a go route up the sideline, the trips side has the outside receiver on a go route and the inside slot on a deep drag/cross that works underneath from the far trips receiver to the middle of the field, while the middle trips receiver runs a skinny post seam. This is a pure man beater designed to isolate one on one matchups on the outside verticals while the drag serves as a rhythm outlet against zone drops. Primary read progression starts backside go for the big play shot, then works to the post seam, and finally settles on the drag as the checkdown against tight man coverage.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify single high safety alignment, this tells you man coverage is likely on the outside go routes and you can take the shot early in the progression. Watch cornerback press alignment on the trips side, soft corners open up easy completions on the drag route working underneath. Post-snap, key the middle linebacker drop depth, if he sinks deep to help on the post seam route the drag will be wide open behind him. Beware Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, this play loses its explosive vertical shot value and forces you into the underneath drag as the only realistic option. Look for a user controlled defender lurking in the shallow middle zone, this can jump the drag route, so be ready to reset to the backside go route if you see him crashing down.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs or anytime you see single high safety pre-snap since the two outside go routes will stress the corners in one on one man matchups.
If you see two deep safeties, look immediately to the drag route crossing the field since the underneath zone beater becomes your quickest and safest completion.
Motion the backside receiver before the snap to confirm man versus zone, if he gets shadowed man coverage is likely and you can trust the backside go route as your first read.
Pair this with 45 Quick Base or Stick earlier in a series to bait linebackers into sitting on shorter routes, then hit 60 Go once the defense shows aggressive underneath rotation.
Use play action shots like PA Read or PA WR In in the same series to keep the safeties honest before dialing up 60 Go for the explosive gain.
