Redzone Up out of Shotgun Trey Open Offset lines up three receivers to the boundary side and a tight end plus running back to the strong side. The trips side runs a flood concept with a deep go route from the outside receiver, a corner route from the number two man, and a shallow hitch from the inside slot, while the tight end works a quick out and the running back releases into a flat route underneath. This is a play-action flood concept built as a Cover 2 and Cover 3 beater, with the primary read starting on the corner route working outside to the go and coming down to the flat and hitch if the deep shots are covered.

Defensive Reads

Identify the safety alignment before the snap, since two deep safeties tips Cover 2 and one deep safety in the middle tips Cover 3 or Cover 1. Watch the flat defender on the trips side after the snap, since he has to choose between the hitch and the running back's flat route, creating a natural conflict read. Key the cornerback over the go route, if he sinks with the corner route the go should be open behind him against Cover 2. User lurk defenders sitting in the middle of the field can jump the corner route, so be ready to reset to the go or flat if you see a defender sitting in that window. Man coverage with no help over the top gets exposed by the go route immediately, so check for press alignment on the outside cornerback as a pre-snap indicator of man coverage.

Usage Tips

Use this play in the red zone or any situation inside the 20 where vertical spacing is limited and you need to stack routes on the boundary.

Check pre-snap for two high safeties, since the corner route sitting behind a cornerback and in front of a rotating safety is the primary conflict on Cover 2 shells.

If the corner shows Cover 3 with a single high safety, look immediately to the go route on the outside since the deep third defender cannot cover both vertical threats.

Hot route the running back's flat route to a check release if you see a blitz look with extra rushers coming off the edge, giving your quarterback an outlet against pressure.

Pair this play with Y Corner KO or Strong Flood from the same set to keep defenses guessing on whether the flood is coming from the strong or trips side.
