The lone receiver on the strong isolated side runs a wheel out of the backfield area that climbs from the flat to a corner breaking route, giving you a built in scheme fit against both man and zone coverage. This is a quick game pass concept, not a run or screen, and the primary read starts with the Stick combo (flat, curl, corner) before working to the backside vertical breaking route if the underneath is jumped.

Defensive Reads

Presnap check safety depth, if both safeties are deep and equal it is likely two high zone, which means the flat and curl combo will be open underneath. Watch the corner alignment on the isolated side, soft outside leverage invites the corner route while tight press alignment signals man coverage that the wheel can beat. Postsnap identify the flat defender's drop, if he sits and reads the quarterback's eyes he can jump the flat route and force you to the curl or corner behind him. Look for a user controlled linebacker sitting in the shallow zone as a lurk threat, since he can undercut the curl route and bait a turnover if the quarterback stares it down. This concept struggles against aggressive underneath man blitzes with no safety help over the top, since the quick timing routes get disrupted before receivers can settle into their breaks.

Usage Tips

Presnap identify if the defense is showing two high or single high, since Stick beats both but your primary read changes based on the shell.

Against zone coverage, key the curl to flat combo and let the quarterback work low to high, hitting the flat first if the underneath defender squats.

Against man coverage, look immediately to the backside corner or wheel route since those routes create natural rub and separation against tight man technique.

Use this on third and short to medium distance since the Stick combo settles into easy void spots and the corner route punishes aggressive underneath jumps.

Pair this with Y Stick or Triple Slant from the same set to keep the defense guessing between quick game reads, then hit them with Y Corner or Four Verticals once they start jumping the short stuff.
