Breakdown
Redzone Post Fade lines up out of Shotgun Trey Open Offset with three receivers bunched to the right and one isolated to the left. The backside X runs a corner breaking route to the sideline, the two inside right receivers run a post and a short out/flat combo, and the outside right receiver runs a fade up the sideline while the running back checks down out of the backfield. This is a man beater built for the red zone, designed to isolate the fade against single coverage on the outside while the post occupies the safety, with your primary read starting on the boundary corner route and progressing to the fade if the corner leverages inside.
Defensive Reads
Look for a single high safety pre-snap, this tells you the defense is banking on man coverage on the outside routes and the fade or corner route can win one on one Watch the boundary corner's press alignment, if he is playing outside leverage the post breaking inside has room, if he plays inside leverage the fade to the numbers is open Identify Cover 2 shells by checking for two deep safeties split evenly, this coverage shuts down the fade since the corner has help over the top and forces you to the underdcuts to the flat or the post Key the flat defender's depth at the snap, a shallow linebacker or nickel sitting on the flat route signals a potential jump on your check down and opens a window for the post over the middle Watch for blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge, since this play holds the ball for a deeper developing fade and corner, a fast blitz can force an early checkdown to the running back
Usage Tips
Call this play inside the 10 yard line when you need a high point throw against man coverage on the outside receiver
Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see a single high safety shaded toward the trips side, the backside corner route to the isolated X is your first look
Motion or shift can help you identify man versus zone before the snap, if the corner mirrors your outside receiver at the snap that confirms man and green lights the fade shot
Pair this with Redzone Up or Y Corner KO in the same set to keep the defense guessing between fade shots and corner routes from a similar formation look
Use this on 3rd and short to medium in the red zone since the quick out and flat combo underneath gives you a safety valve if both outside routes are covered
