Curls X Go out of Shotgun Trey Open uses the trips side to stack two curl routes underneath a deep go from the number two receiver, while the boundary X on the backside runs a vertical go route to hold the safety and cornerback on that side. The lone backfield weapon releases outside on a wheel/vertical release, giving the quarterback a fourth option if the trips side is jumped. This is primarily a zone beater, designed to sit the curls in the soft spots of a Cover 3 or Cover 4 shell while the two go routes stretch the deep coverage vertically, with the outer curl route on the trips side as the primary read followed by the inside curl and backside go route on man leverage.

Presnap check safety depth, two high shells invite the curls while one high shells signal a possible Cover 3 sink underneath Watch the flat defender on the trips side, if he sits too wide the outside curl window opens immediately Key the middle linebacker drop, a fast sink into the curl zone shuts down the primary read and forces the quarterback to the go routes User controlled lurk defenders can jump the inside curl route, so track any manual defender flashing toward that landmark Press man coverage on the backside X go route is vulnerable to a double move, but tight man coverage with safety help over the top takes away the deep shot entirely

Usage Tips

Use this on second and medium to long when defenses are likely to sit in zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 2

Read the flat defender and underneath linebacker depth presnap to identify if the curl windows will be open at the sticks

If you get man coverage look immediately to the backside X go route or the trips go route for a vertical shot play

Hot route the inside curl to a flat or drag if you see aggressive underneath zone drops sinking into the curl windows
