Check safety depth presnap, a single high safety with off corners signals Cover 3 and favors the comeback and boomerang routes sitting down in the soft spots. Post snap, identify any user controlled defender dropping into a shallow flat lurk, since this play leans heavily on flat and out breaking routes a disciplined flat defender can bait a risky throw. Against Cover 2 with two deep safeties, watch for the corner sinking to jump the flat since the swing route becomes low value, in that case the TE out and comeback routes become the priority.

Usage Tips

Use the HB motion presnap to identify man versus zone coverage, if a defender follows the HB across the formation it is man coverage and you should immediately look to the boomerang route working against a trailing corner.

Against zone shells with off corners and a single high safety, prioritize the TE out route sitting in the flat void created by the swing route pulling linebackers up.

This play works best on second and short to medium distance where the checkdown swing to the HB can pick up easy yardage if the defense sits back in zone.

Pair this call with Slot Wheel or HB Slip Screen from the same set to condition the defense to bite on flat routes, then punish overaggressive linebackers with the boomerang and corner combo shots downfield.

If you see a Cover 3 shell with the corner sinking into a deep third, hot route the X receiver comeback into a quick out to beat the zone leverage before the corner can undercut it.
