PA Jailbreak Slot is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Doubles HB Wk that uses a run fake to freeze the linebackers before attacking the intermediate and deep parts of the field. The concept blends a deep shot on the outside with an underneath crosser and a check down out of the backfield, giving you a full field progression from a play-action shell. It works best as a man beater against aggressive linebacker fits since the play fake creates natural separation, but it can also punish zone defenses that bite on the run action and vacate throwing lanes underneath. Primary read progression starts with the deep outside route, works down to the intermediate crosser, and finishes with the backfield check down if the pocket collapses.

Defensive Reads

Watch the linebacker depth immediately after the snap, if they step up hard on the run fake the crosser and check down will be wide open underneath. Identify Cover 3 shells by looking for a single high safety and corners playing off, this play beats that shell easily with the deep outside shot once the flat defender bites on the fake. Beware of a hard Cover 2 look with two deep safeties sitting on top, this can take away the deep outside route and force you into the checkdown progression early. Usage Tips

Run this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage so the play fake actually holds the linebackers and the run threat is respected by the defense.

Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two high safeties sitting deep the play action fake will not move them much but the underneath crosser should still open up against man coverage.

Use hot routes to convert the outside route into a quick out if you see a corner sitting in a hard flat zone, this turns PA Jailbreak Slot into an instant zone beater against Cover 3 and Cover 2 shells.
