Shock

Shock is a five man route concept out of Pistol U Off Trips with 12 personnel that stresses the field with three distinct vertical and intermediate levels. The backside runs a deep corner/flag route stacked with an out breaking flat route underneath it, the trips side runs a pivot route back to the outside working under a corner route from the slot, and the running back releases on a wheel route from the backfield up the sideline. The Y (in-line tight end) stays in to block, giving you five in protection against four or five man pressure looks. This is a man beater at its core, the wheel route out of the backfield creates natural leverage against linebackers in man coverage, while the deep corner routes on both sides attack cornerbacks who bite on underneath breaks, primary read progression starts with the HB wheel against man coverage, then works to the trips side pivot/corner combo, and finally to the backside corner and flat combo if the initial reads are covered.
