Usage Tips

Call this play when the defense shows six or fewer defenders in the box, since the extra gap integrity from base or nickel fronts gives your line a clean angle to seal the middle.

Use the trips alignment pre-snap to bait the defense into rotating a safety or nickel corner out of the box, then snap it quickly before they can adjust back.

Pair HB Dive with HB Stretch and HB Counter in the same personnel package so linebackers cannot sit on one gap and have to respect misdirection.

Mix in Read Option and Jet Lead Read Option from the same formation to keep defenders honest on outside contain, which opens up the interior lanes for the dive.

Avoid calling this against heavy blitz packages or stacked eight man fronts unless you have a hot route ready to check into a quick pass, since there is no time for the line to climb to the second level.
