26 Duo out of Singleback Wing Pair is a downhill power run play built on a double team blocking scheme up front designed to displace defensive linemen and let the HB read the interior gaps late. The diagram shows the HB aligned behind the QB taking a slight angle handoff path toward the strong side gap, with the offensive line working combo blocks to climb to the second level rather than pulling. This is a pure run play, not a man or zone beater in the passing sense, and the primary read progression for the HB is patience at the mesh point, pressing the line to let the double teams work, then breaking off the double team block based on which linebacker flows first.
Watch the middle linebacker depth pre-snap since Duo is designed to bait linebackers into flowing fast, and if the Mike is sitting deep and reading instead of flowing downhill it becomes harder to find the cutback lane. Key the defensive tackles alignment, since a 2i or 3 technique that squeezes hard down the line can blow up the double team before it climbs to the second level. Post-snap as the ball carrier, read which linebacker gets displaced first by the double team combo block and cut opposite that displacement for the natural bounce or cutback lane. User controlled defenders sitting in the A or B gap pre-snap are the biggest threat since a smart lurk defender can crash the mesh point untouched and blow up the timing. Against stacked fronts or heavy blitz packages with extra defenders in the box, this play loses its blocking numbers advantage and should be replaced with a quick pass or screen from the same set.
Run this on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short to keep defenses honest and set up your play-action shots later in the set. Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing a light box with only six or seven defenders, since Duo thrives against base fronts without extra run support. If the defense stacks the box with eight defenders or shows a heavy blitz look, consider audibling to a quick pass like Y Stick or Spacing from this same formation instead. Use the manual sprint burst technique for the HB to hit the crease exactly when the double team block starts to climb, not before, since jumping the gap too early kills the natural cutback lanes. Pair 26 Duo with HB Counter Wk and Power O in your play-calling sequence so linebackers cannot key on a single blocking scheme, then hit PA Boot Lt or PA X Burst Cross once the defense starts flowing hard downhill.
