Defensive Reads

If a linebacker or slot corner sprints with the jet motion across the formation, that is man coverage and you should expect the crosser to win against trailing defenders who cannot keep pace. Watch for user-controlled defenders lurking in the shallow crossing lane since a smart user will sit on the drive route and jump the underneath crosser, baiting the quarterback into a pick. Man coverage with a hard flat defender or nano blitz off the edge will disrupt the tight end's shallow route timing, so identify blitz packages pre-snap by checking linebacker depth and edge alignment. Usage Tips
