Key the linebacker depth on the drag route crosser since a linebacker sitting shallow signals zone and will jump the drag if you telegraph it. If you see two deep safeties holding their depth post-snap, that signals a Cover 4 or Cover 2 shell and you should abandon the corner route in favor of the flat and drag combo. Beware disguised Cover 1 with a robber sitting underneath since he can undercut the drag route and jump the shallow crosser if the quarterback stares it down.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion to identify if the defense is playing man or zone based on whether a defender follows the motion man across the formation.

Against Cover 3 look immediately to the corner route since the deep defender in the middle third cannot cover both the corner and any vertical threat on the opposite side.

If the safety rotates down pre-snap into a two high shell, hot route the corner into a comeback or peel off to the flat and drag combo underneath since the deep third will be occupied.

Pair this play with Mtn Spot on early downs to keep the same formation look and motion but change the concept, forcing the defense to declare coverage without a tell.

This play works best on second and long or third and medium since the corner route needs time to develop and the flat and drag give you safe outlets against pressure.
