Breakdown

PA Jet Sweep out of Singleback Wing Flex Close (12 personnel) sells the jet sweep fake to the flank before working a three level passing tree off the play fake. The backside receiver runs a corner route up the numbers, the middle of field target breaks on an out at the second level after selling a vertical stem, and the underneath flat route holds the edge defender after the jet motion. Blocking up front holds firm on run fake steps before sliding into pass pro, and this is a play-action man beater designed to punish linebackers and safeties who bite on the sweep action, with the primary read progression going corner route first, then the intermediate out, and the flat route as the checkdown against pressure.

Defensive Reads

Key the strong safety and weak side linebacker at the snap, if they crash hard toward the jet motion the play action window opens up for the corner route. Watch for man coverage indicators like corners aligned tight with no help over the top, this play is designed to win one on one on the corner route in that shell. Identify cover 3 or cover 4 shells pre snap, since the deep corner route can get squeezed by a rotating safety, so be ready to check down to the out route or flat route instead. Post snap, track the flat defender and any user controlled linebacker sitting in the shallow zone, a disciplined lurk defender can jump the out route if the quarterback stares it down. Against zone blitz or fire zone calls, watch for the extra rusher off the edge and get the ball out on time to the flat or out route before the pocket collapses.

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs in run heavy personnel counts so the jet motion actually threatens the defense and freezes linebackers.

Check safety depth before the snap, if you see a single high safety cheating toward the box the corner route has a size advantage over a run committed corner.

Hot route the flat route into a quick out or snag if you diagnose zone coverage post snap, since the flat defender can sit and squat on that route against zone shells.

Pair this with straight Jet Sweep and HB Toss Weak from the same set so defenders start keying run fits and biting on the same motion, setting up the play action shot later in the series.

Attack blitz heavy defenses with this call since the play fake and extra blockers slow down edge rushers and give the quarterback a clean launch point for the corner shot.
