Man coverage shells with aggressive corner blitzes off the edge are the biggest counter to this play since a user controlled corner can beat the blocker to the point of attack. Zone defenses with linebackers reading run flow late are the most vulnerable to Jet Sweep, especially if the defense is disguising coverage instead of firing downhill immediately.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion timing to your advantage by snapping the ball just as the motion man crosses the formation so the defense has no time to rotate or trigger a scrape exchange.

Check for overloaded boxes or aggressive linebacker flow before the snap since this play thrives against defenses that are slow to flow horizontally or that key the QB instead of the motion man.

Hot route the play side TE or wing into a lead block if you are facing an edge defender who consistently crashes down, giving your jet man a cleaner alley.

Pair this call with HB Dive or Inside Zone Split from the same set to keep linebackers honest, then hit Jet Sweep once they start cheating toward interior gaps.

Best used on early downs or in short yardage situations where defenses are more likely to sit in base fronts rather than sub packages built to stop perimeter speed.
