Outside Zone from Doubles Offset Wk (Shotgun, 11 personnel) is a zone run play design that sends the offensive line and blocking TE flowing laterally toward the play side to create a wide running lane, with the HB taking a stretch path behind the line before pressing the edge. The diagram shows the entire front stepping in unison to the right with no route combos drawn, confirming this is a pure zone run play rather than a play-action or RPO look. Primary read progression for the ball carrier is press the alley first, then bend it back inside if the edge defender or force player squeezes the stretch too hard.
Watch linebacker depth pre-snap since stacked linebackers who key the backfield quickly will fill the alley before the stretch develops. Identify the play side edge defender's technique, a hard crash inside opens the bounce lane while a wide set forces the cutback read shown in the design. Look for safety rotation into the box, an extra defender in the run fit can outnumber the zone blocking scheme and blow up the stretch. This run beats light six man boxes and slow flowing zone fronts but struggles against gap exchange stunts and disciplined two gap defensive tackles. Track user controlled defenders flowing hard to the play side, since a heavy overcommit there is exactly when the cutback lane shown in the diagram becomes the better track.
Check the box count pre-snap and only run this into light boxes of six or fewer defenders since heavier fronts can outnumber your zone blocking scheme.
Use the offset back alignment shown in the diagram to identify which side the defense is leaving weaker before the snap and audible the play direction if needed.
Mix this in on early downs like first and ten or second and short to keep defenses honest and set up your RPO Zone Peek and RPO Zone Alert Bubble calls out of the same formation.
Hot route the TE to a stalk block if you see an overloaded edge defender crashing hard, since the diagram shows him as a key zone blocker on the play side.
Pair this with Inside Zone and HB Draw from the same personnel group to keep linebacker run fits guessing and slow down aggressive user blitzes.
