Inside Zone out of Shotgun Doubles Offset Wk is a straightforward zone run play with the HB aligned offset in the backfield and the full offensive line flowing in unison on zone steps. The diagram shows no route concepts, just the run blocking scheme with linemen taking horizontal zone steps and the HB reading the natural cutback lane behind the RG or RT gap. Primary read progression starts with the playside double team at the point of attack, then works to the backside cutback lane if the frontside gap gets clogged by penetration or a stacked box.
Watch for a stacked box with 7 or more defenders, which signals the defense is selling out to stop the run and this play should be checked out of. Identify Mike linebacker depth before the snap, since a linebacker sitting shallow in the A gap can blow up the interior zone track before the double team forms. Look for edge defenders crashing hard inside on run blitzes, which opens a bounce lane to the perimeter that user-controlled defenders may not rotate to in time. Post-snap, key the backside defensive end and any user-controlled linebacker flowing too fast frontside, since that creates the cutback lane this scheme is designed to exploit. Against Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with safeties staying deep, this run hits well due to fewer underneath run support defenders, but Cover 1 or Cover 0 with an extra man in the box shuts it down quickly.
Check the defensive box count pre-snap and only run this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box to avoid getting stuffed by an extra run defender.
Use motion or a quick pre-snap read on the offset HB alignment to identify if the defense is shading toward the strength, since that tells you whether to press the frontside hole or plan for a cutback.
Pair this play with RPO Alert Bubble, RPO Peek Slant, or RPO Read Bubble from the same set so defenses cannot sit on the run without exposing bubble and slant throws.
Attack second and short or first and ten situations where defenses expect balanced play calling, then sequence Outside Zone afterward once linebackers start flowing hard to the inside zone landmark.
Use manual ball carrier vision or the hit stick sparingly, letting the natural zone blocking develop before committing to a gap so you do not run into blown assignments.
