Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check safety depth: two-high shells with safeties sitting back give the RB more room before help arrives, while a single-high look with an extra man in the box signals this run should be avoided. Post-snap, key the Mike linebacker's first step. If he stays square and reads the OL's pass-set instead of retreating, he will fill the draw lane and limit this to a minimal gain. Nano blitzes or interior A-gap blitzes destroy this play instantly since the RB has no time to find a crease before the rusher is already in the backfield.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs or in obvious passing situations like 2nd and long or 3rd and medium to catch aggressive pass rushers cheating upfield.
Check pre-snap for blitz indicators such as linebackers creeping to the line or safeties rotating down, since a draw dies against disciplined gap-control fronts.
Pair this with your RPO concepts like RPO Peek Slant or RPO Alert Bubble earlier in a series so defenders start keying run fits differently and second-guess their pass rush lanes.
Avoid calling this against zone-drop heavy defenses that keep linebackers patient in their drops, since those defenders will sit and read the RB instead of biting on the pass fake.
Use the same Doubles Offset Wk personnel look with Inside Zone or Outside Zone in the same drive to build tendencies before dialing up this draw as a changeup.
