This is a pure screen concept designed to bait aggressive pass rushers and blitz packages, using the return action to disguise the screen and get the HB the ball in space with blockers already in position. The primary read progression is presnap: identify blitz or heavy rush first, then throw the screen to the HB as soon as the blockers get out in front, since this play lives and dies off of the defense overcommitting up front.

Call this play when you see presnap blitz indicators like linebackers creeping to the line or a defensive coordinator dialing up nano blitzes, since the extra rushers only speed up the screen setup for you.

Use the return motion to identify man versus zone before the snap, if defenders shift with the motion man defenders are flowing away from the eventual screen lane which is exactly what you want.

Throw the screen quickly once the HB settles into the void, do not wait on your blockers to fully set because user defenders can flow downhill and blow up the screen if you hesitate.

Pair this with straight dropback passes like Curls or Slants earlier in a series so the defense respects the pass and rushes hard, then hit this screen to punish overpursuit.

Avoid calling this against disciplined zone teams that sit and read the quarterback, since screen defenders who stay home will erase the HB before blockers can wall off.
