RPO Glance Post is a run pass option out of Shotgun Doubles Offset Wk that pairs an inside zone run with a glance route (quick slant) and a post route working off the same leverage read. The quarterback reads the second level defender, usually the play side linebacker or a flowing safety, to decide between handing off the zone run or pulling and throwing the glance or post behind it. This is a zone beater at its core since it attacks light boxes and honeycomb zone drops, and the primary read progression starts with the box count pre-snap, then keys the linebacker flow to the run fit before working glance to post if the throw is on.

Defensive Reads

Watch the play side linebacker depth at the snap, if he sits flat footed or bites hard on run action that is your glance throw window. Identify single high versus two high safety shells pre-snap, single high leaves the post vulnerable to a deep third defender while two high forces a strictly underneath glance read. Zone blitzes with a linebacker dropping into the glance window and a corner blitzing off the edge are the primary counter to this concept, recognize the extra rusher pre-snap and check to a quick game answer if needed.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only prioritize the run if you see six or fewer defenders in the box with no extra flow to the play side.

If the linebacker sits or crashes down on the run action, pull the ball immediately and hit the glance route since that leverage defender is your key.

Use hot routes to adjust the backside receiver into a quick out or speed out against teams that roll a safety over the top to erase the post.

This play works best on early downs in the second half of the play clock or on manageable third and short since it punishes teams that stack the box to stop inside zone.
