Defensive Reads

Watch the motion defender post-snap; if he trails in man coverage across the formation, expect man coverage overall and prioritize the seam and choice route. Identify if a linebacker or safety is sitting in a lurk position in the middle of the field, since this can jump the seam route and force you to the choice or flat route instead. Cover 3 with a hard-sinking middle linebacker can take away the seam throwing window, so key on his depth at the snap to decide whether to peek the seam or go directly to the Z choice. Watch for man press coverage on the Z receiver pre-snap, since this determines whether the choice route breaks in or out after the release.
Usage Tips
Use the pre-snap motion to identify if the defense is playing man or zone based on whether a defender follows the motion man across the formation.
Against single-high safety looks, prioritize the Y seam route immediately since the middle of the field is open and the seam window will be tight but explosive.
Read the Z choice route defender's leverage before the snap; if he is playing outside shade, expect the choice route to break inside for an easy completion.
