RPO Alert Slant is a run-pass option out of Pistol Y Off Trips that pairs an inside run scheme with a slant concept from the trips side, giving the quarterback a pre-snap alert and a post-snap read on an inside linebacker or overhang defender. The line blocks the run while the slot and outside receivers work quick slants that beat man coverage and sit down in front of soft zone drops, making this both a run beater and a light-box RPO answer. The primary read progression starts with the alert key defender: if he crashes down on the run fit, pull and throw the slant; if he sits or bails to cover the pass, hand the ball off.

Defensive Reads

Check the box count before the snap and use the RPO alert key to decide run or pass in half a second rather than hesitating

Against man coverage with no safety help underneath, pull and throw the slant to the trips receiver running away from the flow of the run

Against light boxes or run blitzes, take the automatic handoff since the slant defender will already be occupied in run support

Hot route the backside slot into a quick out or spot if you see a corner squatting on the slant window, giving yourself a second answer versus zone drops
