PA Boot RT is a play-action rollout out of Pistol Y Off Trips that pulls the offensive line to sell run flow while the QB booms out to the right edge. The trips side floods with a deep dig or crosser and a shorter flat option, while the backside gets a comeback or drag to give the QB a full field progression on the move. This is primarily a man beater because the boot action forces man defenders to run through traffic and the flood concept creates natural rub picks, though it also holds up against zone if the flat defender bites on run action. The primary read is flat to intermediate to backside comeback as the QB works his boot progression from the sideline back inside.

Defensive Reads

Identify single high shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3 before the snap since the boot action and flood concept exploit man leverage and curl to flat zone voids. Watch the flat defender's run fit at the snap. If he crashes down on the play fake, the flat route is wide open and should be the first progression read. Key the backside safety rotation. If he stays home instead of rotating with the boot, the trips side dig or crosser will have a soft window over the second level. Cover 2 with disciplined corners playing the flat hard can shut this down, forcing the QB to hold the ball longer and take checkdowns underneath. Watch for user linebackers spying the rollout lane. A disciplined edge defender or spy can contain the QB and force an early, inaccurate throw on the run.

Run this on early downs or in 2nd and short situations where linebackers are still respecting run action from HB Dive or HB Wide Zone Wk called earlier in the drive.

Check the flat defender before the snap. If a corner or safety is sitting hard outside, hot route the flat route to a deeper option or peel it into a fade to attack the vacated space.

Use the rollout to buy time against exotic pressure. Since the QB is moving away from the play side rush, this play punishes overloaded blitz fronts and nano blitz attempts from the defensive left.
