HB Blast Alert X Smoke is a power run play out of Strong I Pro 21 personnel that isolates the fullback as a lead blocker through the hole for the halfback. The diagram shows the FB and HB stacked behind the QB with the FB leading through the point of attack while the offensive line downblocks to create a vertical crease, and the X receiver runs a smoke screen alert route to the flat as a built in answer versus overplayed run fits. There is no play-action or RPO element shown here, this is a straight gap scheme run with a pre-snap alert audible built in, so the primary read is presnap: throw the X Smoke if the corner sits soft or crashes down on run support, otherwise hand it off and follow the fullback's block.
Defensive Reads
Watch for the corner over the X receiver playing tight man or bump coverage, this removes the smoke alert as an option and forces the offense into the run fit Key the slot or flat defender's depth at the snap, shallow zone drops or quick flat rotation will jump the smoke route the instant it's thrown Read the box count before the snap, if the defense stacks the box with a linebacker or safety cheating downhill the fullback's lead block loses its numbers advantage User controlled defenders spying the fullback or crashing the A gap can blow up the iso blocking scheme, so respect an aggressive interior blitz look Zone coverage shells with the corner sitting off at 7 or more yards invite the smoke throw, this is the fastest way to punish soft zone shells that overcommit to stopping the run
Usage Tips
Use the X Smoke alert as your answer versus corners playing off man or soft zone at the snap, this turns a run play into a free access bubble throw before the ball is even snapped
Check the flat defender and slot corner depth presnap, if they are sitting inside or crashing hard on run support the smoke screen has room to work
If the defense shows a stacked box with 8 or more in the tackle box, take the automatic smoke throw instead of forcing the run into a numbers disadvantage

Best used on early downs, first and second and short to medium, since the run action needs favorable numbers and the smoke alert gives you a built in checkdown versus blitz heavy fronts
