PA F-Corner is a play-action pass out of Strong I with 21 personnel that sells the run fake before attacking the deep half of the field. The fullback releases into a corner route from the backfield, breaking hard outside after climbing vertically off the play-action fake, while one receiver runs a deep dig-style crosser and the other works an out breaking route underneath. The blocking scheme holds up front to sell the run action and buy time for the corner route to develop, making this a man beater designed to exploit safeties biting on the fake with the fullback isolated on a linebacker. The primary read starts with the F-Corner route out of the backfield, then progresses to the crossing route working away from the flow if the corner is capped.
Defensive Reads
Watch for single high safety pre-snap since that alignment often leaves the fullback corner route in a soft spot behind linebackers biting the run fake. Identify man coverage matchups on the fullback pre-snap, if a linebacker is aligned over him the corner route is a high percentage win for the offense. Post-snap, key the flow of the linebackers, if they step up hard to play action the middle of the field opens for both the corner route and the crossing route. Look for a lurking defender sitting in the passing lane between the corner route and the crosser, a user-controlled linebacker or safety sitting in that window can jump the throw. Zone coverage with two deep safeties can shut this down if the corner route runs into the deep half defender, so respect two high shells and check down to the underneath out route instead.
Usage Tips
Run this on early downs like first or second and short to mid distance so the play fake actually threatens the defense and freezes linebackers.
Check pre-snap for single high safety looks or run blitz alignments since those are the shells most likely to bite on the fake and open up the fullback corner route.
Hot route the underneath out route into a shallow drag or spot if you are getting immediate pressure, since it gives you a quick answer against blitz-heavy calls.
Pair this with FB Dive or HB Iso earlier in a drive so the defense respects the run action and sells out against it, setting up the fullback corner as a chunk play later.
Use it on play action rollout downs against defenses that key run heavily on early downs, since the fullback often gets lost in coverage rotation.
