DBL Pump n Go's

Play diagram for DBL Pump n Go's from Strong I Pro in Madden 27

Quick Reference

Breakdown

DBL Pump n Go's is a vertical shot play out of Strong I 21 personnel designed to attack single-high and man coverage over the top. Both outside receivers (X and the yellow flanker) run go routes straight up the sideline off a pump fake stem, while the slot yellow receiver runs a deep out breaking back toward the sideline as a secondary window, and the fullback releases from the backfield on a swing/flare route underneath into the boundary. The lone red route on the backside is an isolated go route, giving the quarterback a true double go read to one side plus a backside deep shot. Primary progression starts with the backside isolated go if the corner is playing off or in a bail technique, then works to the two vertical go routes to the strength side, using the deep out from the slot as the checkdown-turned-explosive option if the safety rotates over the top.

Defensive Reads

Look for single-high man coverage shells before the snap since that is the ideal defense for the double go concept to win over the top. Watch cornerback footwork at the snap, if both outside corners open their hips and run with the go routes in true man technique you have a clean vertical shot on either side. Identify the free safety's post-snap rotation, if he cheats to the strength side to help on the double go's, the backside isolated go route becomes a one-on-one win against the deep half defender. Key the slot defender's zone drop depth, if he sinks too shallow trying to jump underneath routes, the deep out from the slot receiver will sit down in soft coverage behind him. Beware two deep safety shells like Cover 2 or Cover 4 with press corners underneath, since that combination takes away both go routes and forces you into the low value fullback swing as the only clean release.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs or in two minute drill situations when you have already established the run game and want to attack a defense selling out on run fits.

Check pre-snap for single-high safety looks or man coverage indicators like corners lined up in press or with inside shade, since that tells you the double go's to the strength side have a clean vertical runway.

If you see two deep safeties or a clear Cover 2/4 shell, prioritize the deep out from the slot yellow receiver since it settles in the void between the corner and safety rather than forcing the ball into double coverage.

Hot route the fullback swing into a flat or wheel route if you are getting green dog pressure from the strong side linebacker, giving you a quick answer to the blitz look.

Pair this play with FL Drive or PA Slide earlier in a drive so defenders start biting on shorter routes and underneath crossers, then hit this shot play once you have that tendency built up.
