Defensive Reads
Watch for man coverage indicators like tight press alignment on the X and Z receivers, which signals the crossing routes will create natural separation through traffic. If the defense shows Cover 2 or Cover 4 shell with two deep safeties, expect the underneath crossers to be the primary throw since the deep shots will be taken away. Key the Sam linebacker and strong safety depth at the snap, since a shallow drop from either indicates they are spying the trail route or jumping the shallow drag. Look for a nano blitz or edge pressure package pre-snap, since the fullback's trail route release can be disrupted or the quarterback rushed before the crossers develop.
