PA Jet Sweep from Singleback Tight Y Off Flex sells the jet motion fake to hold linebackers before releasing into a play-action passing concept. Off the run fake, the play stacks a deep crosser off the far outside receiver, a deep out breaking to the opposite sideline, and a shallow drag underneath from the backside that gives you a built-in outlet. This is a play-action man and zone beater: the deep crosser stresses man coverage defenders working through traffic, the corner route attacks zone defenders sitting short, and the shallow drag is your check-down against pressure. Primary read progression starts with the deep crossing route working left to right, then the corner breaking route, and finally the underneath drag as the safety valve.
Watch for linebackers stepping up hard on the jet motion, if they bite you have the deep crosser and corner route wide open behind them. Identify single high safety looks pre-snap, this tells you the defense may be in man coverage which favors the deep crossing route against a trailing defender. Key the flow of the strong side linebacker after the snap, aggressive flow toward the jet fake opens up the shallow drag as an easy completion against man or zone. Look for user-controlled defenders sitting in the shallow zone or lurking underneath, this is the biggest threat to the drag route and should push your read up to the corner or crosser instead. Against Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells, this play struggles because the deep corner route runs into the flat defender's zone drop, so audible to a run play if you see those shells pre-snap.
Run this on early downs or in run-heavy personnel situations so the jet motion fake actually holds linebacker eyes and freezes the second level.
Check the safety shell pre-snap, if you see two high safeties cheat the corner route into the void, if it is single high look immediately for the deep crosser working away from the rotating safety.
Use hot routes to convert the shallow drag into a quick hitch or flat route if the defense shows blitz, giving you an instant answer against nano blitzes off the edge.
Pair this with Jet Sweep and Jet HB Power from the same set so the defense has to respect the actual jet run before you hit them with the play-action shot, this keeps linebackers honest and slows their run fits.
Best used on first or second down when defenders are more likely to bite on run action, avoid third and long situations since the deep routes take time to develop and expose you to coverage sacks.
