Jet HB Power is a gap scheme run play out of Singleback Tight Y Off Flex that uses jet motion across the formation to manipulate second level defenders before the snap. The blocking scheme shows the play side linemen pulling and kicking out toward the point of attack while the backside guard wraps through the hole to lead block, classic power run design with a lead blocker climbing to the second level. The lone route shown is a vertical release from the flexed TE, but this is fundamentally a downhill run play and the primary read is the play side double team at the point of attack followed by the puller's kickout block on the edge defender.

Defensive Reads

Presnap, key the linebacker depth and flow, if they cheat toward the jet motion side before the snap you have a clean lane on the power side away from the flow. Watch the defensive end and outside linebacker on the play side edge, if they crash hard down the line the pulling guard's kickout block should spring the cutback lane. Man coverage shells with linebackers locked on the motion man create natural running lanes since those defenders are removed from the box on the snap. Stacked fronts or run blitzes that key the pulling guard immediately can blow this up, watch for a linebacker or safety cheating into the play side gap presnap. Post snap, track user controlled defenders flowing hard with the jet action, if the user bites on the motion the interior gap should stay clean for the power run.

Usage Tips

Use the jet motion presnap to bait linebackers into flowing with the sweep action, then confirm they bit before the snap so you can commit to the power run behind the pulling guard.

Attack base 4-3 and 3-4 fronts where the play side has a clear double team look, this scheme struggles against heavy odd fronts stacked with extra defenders in the box.

Hot route the flexed TE vertical into a shorter option like a drag or seal block if you anticipate a blitz off the edge, it gives you an extra blocker without losing the misdirection benefit of the motion.

Run this on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short to stay ahead of the chains, the motion tax it puts on linebackers sets up play action shots later in the drive.

Pair this with Jet Sweep and PA Jet Sweep from the same set so the defense has to respect both the perimeter motion run and the interior power look off identical presnap action.
