Look for a user controlled defender flowing hard toward the line to sell run support, that is a lurk threat vacating the shallow zone which the slide route exploits. Against man coverage, track the linebacker assigned to the drag route, if he gets picked off by traffic near the formation the slide route will separate immediately for an easy completion.

Usage Tips

Use PA Slide on early downs like first or second and short when defenses are more likely to bite on the run fake and creep linebackers into run fits.

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see two high safeties sitting deep, look immediately to the slide route working underneath since the corner route will be capped by the deep half defender.

Against single high or Cover 3 shells, the corner route becomes the primary read since the flat and deep third defenders often get pulled by the run fake, opening a throwing lane to the sideline.

Hot route the underneath drag into a deeper crossing route if you are facing aggressive zone drops that sit the shallow window, this manipulates linebackers who are keying the play fake.

Pair this play with Inside Zone or HB Draw earlier in a drive to condition the defense to bite on run action, then call PA Slide to punish overpursuing linebackers and safeties who cheat downhill.
