Hitch Corners

Read the cornerback depth pre-snap, soft corners playing off will bait you into the hitch while tight press corners open up the corner route behind them. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting on the deep corner route, that is the biggest threat to this concept and it should bump your progression to the underyneath hitches immediately. Zone coverage with linebackers sinking hard will clog the shallow hitch windows, so identify hook zone drops before committing to the short throw. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is where this play wins most often, since the corner routes create natural high low leverage on outside corners. Cover 2 shells with hard flat defenders can undercut the shallow hitch, so key the flat defender's first two steps to decide between the hitch and the deeper corner.
