Mtn Mesh Fork lines up in Shotgun out of the 5WR Trio set and puts a classic mesh crossing combo on the field alongside a fork concept to the strong side. The two outside receivers cross underneath in a traditional mesh, sitting down and working through traffic to pick off man defenders, while the two receivers on the right split in opposite directions off the fork, one bending back to the flat and one climbing vertically up the numbers. This is a man beater through and through, using natural rubs from the mesh crossers to shake off tight coverage, and your primary read progression starts with the mesh crossers underneath before working to the fork concept if the mesh is taken away or if you see zone defenders sitting on the crossers.
Watch for man coverage indicators pre-snap like corners lined up tight with no help over the top, since that is exactly what the mesh crossers are designed to exploit. If linebackers are shown blitzing off the edge, get the ball out quickly to the shallow mesh crosser since that route settles fast and beats pressure before it arrives. Identify any user controlled defender sitting in the shallow zone or lurking near the mesh point, since that defender can jump the crossing routes and bait a turnover if the quarterback stares down the mesh too long. Zone coverage with defenders sinking into short and intermediate windows will clog the mesh crossers, so key on linebacker depth after the snap and be ready to climb the vertical fork route if those zone defenders drop too deep. Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with safeties staying deep will take away the vertical fork shot, so in that case trust the mesh crossers underneath since the intermediate defenders have to respect the flat route stretching the fork side.
Attack man coverage first since the mesh crossers create natural traffic that forces defenders to fight through picks, giving you a built in answer versus press man and man match schemes.
Pre-snap, check for two deep safeties splitting the field evenly, since that usually signals a zone shell where you want to bail out to the fork concept instead of forcing the mesh read.
Hot route the flat runner on the fork side into a quick out if you see a corner sitting low in a cloud coverage look, that gives you a fast answer against blitz heavy calls.
Use this on second and medium or third and short since the mesh crossers settle quickly and give the quarterback a rhythm throw that beats blitzes before pressure arrives.
Pair this with Mtn Y Shallow Cross or Mesh Spot in your play calling sequence so the defense sees similar crossing action but has to respect different depths, which opens up the vertical fork route as a home run shot later in the series.
