Mtn Mesh Y-Post is a five wide man beater out of Shotgun 5WR Trio that layers a mesh concept underneath a deep post shot. The two inside receivers cross at a shallow depth to create natural rubs against man coverage while the backside receiver bends a shallow drag away from the mesh point. The far outside receiver stems into a deep post working from the numbers toward the middle of the field, giving the quarterback a big play window if the safety bites on the mesh traffic, while both outside vertical routes stretch the defense and clear space underneath. Primary progression starts with the post shot off the play fake read, then works down to the mesh crossers and finally to the underneath drag as the checkdown.
Defensive Reads
Watch for a single high safety shading toward the post side pre-snap, that alignment signals the defense is selling out to take away the deep shot and mesh should be the answer. If you see two safeties splitting the field evenly, expect the deep post to be capped, so key the underneath crossers for user-controlled linebackers sitting in mesh windows. Man coverage with linebackers matched on the crossers is where this play thrives, since the natural rub at the mesh point creates separation defenders cannot recover from. Zone shells with a robber or lurk defender sitting in the shallow middle can jump the mesh crossers, so if you see a defender sink into that area pre-snap, look for the drag route breaking away from traffic instead. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge attack this play well since the post takes time to develop, so check protection and be ready to check down to the drag if pressure shows early.

Take a pre-snap peek at the safety alignment before the snap, if you see a single high safety cheating toward the post side, look to the mesh crossers immediately since the post will likely be doubled.
Use this play on early downs or second and medium when defenses are still mixing coverage calls, since the mesh traffic buys the quarterback time versus man pressure.
If you diagnose man coverage post snap, trust the mesh combo to create a natural pick and hit the first open crosser rather than forcing the post.
Pair this call with Mtn Y Shallow Cross or Inverted Mesh later in a series so the defense sees similar crossing traffic and starts jumping the underneath routes, setting up the post to hit for a big gain.
Motion is available pre-snap, use it to identify man versus zone by watching if a defender follows across the formation.
