This is not a man or zone beater since there are no routes shown, it is a pure run play designed to move the pile with numbers at the point of attack, and the primary read is the HB identifying the pulling blocker's kick out or lead block before pressing the designated gap.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check for a light box with six or fewer defenders in the front since that tells you this run has a numbers advantage. Watch safety depth and rotation, a single high safety who creeps down late often signals run support that can clog the lead blocker's path. Post-snap, key the play side linebacker's fill technique, if he shoots the gap fast without respecting the pulling blocker you may need to bounce this play outside in future calls. This run struggles against stacked fronts or defenses in a run blitz with both linebackers crashing downhill, since it removes the lead blocker's advantage. If the defense shows Cover 3 or Cover 4 with safeties staying deep, that usually means fewer defenders in the box, making this an efficient gap run call.

Usage Tips

Run this on early downs like first and ten or short yardage third and one when the defense shows a light box or single high safety look.

Check the defensive front pre-snap and if you see extra defenders stacked in the box or a heavy blitz look, consider bailing to RPO Alert Bubble or RPO Zone Alert Bubble from this same set to get the ball out quickly.
