Y Off Trips is Singleback's trips-strong alignment that keeps the tight end off the line and stacked into the three receiver side, which is what separates it from spread-out looks like Wing Slot or Doubles. You get 11 personnel with two receivers plus the Y off-ball to one side, a single split receiver isolated on the backside, and a lone back next to the quarterback. Because the Y is detached rather than in-line, the defense has to declare whether it treats him as a slot receiver (nickel matchup) or as a tight end (linebacker matchup), and that declaration is your first pre-snap read every single snap.
The trips bunch-adjacent spacing makes zone coverage miserable to play cleanly. China Under, Curls, Stick, and Se In HB Out all flood the strong side with layered depth, so Cover 3 and Cover 4 defenders end up passing off receivers in the same window. Against man, the natural rub action off the stack releases means physical corners cannot press without getting cut off by the inside receiver, which is exactly how you win with Slants and Se Curl. Meanwhile the backside X is on an island, so any single-high shell hands you a one-on-one you can hot route into a fade or slant depending on the corner's leverage.
The run and gadget menu keeps the set honest. HB Power O, Off Tackle, Counter Y, and HB Dive give you gap scheme runs into an extra strong-side body, HB Draw punishes deep drops out of obvious pass looks, and PA Boot Rt plus PA Verticals sell the run before attacking the void the flowing linebackers leave behind. HB Slip Screen is your answer to heavy pressure, and the SLWR tag means you can motion the slot receiver to change strength or bait a coverage tell before the snap.
Read the alignment over the Y first: a linebacker or safety on him means throw Stick or Se In HB Out, while a nickel with two high safeties means run HB Power O or Off Tackle at the reduced front.
Use the SLWR motion tag to shift the slot across the formation and watch whether a defender travels (man) or stays put and passes him off (zone), then commit to your man beater or zone beater accordingly.
On third and medium, pair Curls with a hot route drag from the number three receiver to add a shallow safety valve and give yourself a progression against both blitz and drop coverage.
When your opponent starts bringing pressure, mix in HB Slip Screen and HB Draw from the same look so the pass rush has to hesitate, then go back to PA Verticals for the deep shot.
Hot route the isolated backside receiver to a fade whenever you see single-high with outside leverage: it is the fastest way to attack a defense that is fully rotated toward the trips side.
