Stick out of Singleback Y Off Trips is a trips-based Stick concept that pairs quick option routes with a backside route to attack both man and zone coverage. The trips side runs the classic Stick combo of a flat route, a stick/curl at five to six yards, and a corner or vertical release from the slot, while the backside receiver runs a dig or in-breaker to hold the single safety. This is primarily a zone beater against Cover 2 and Cover 3 because of the stick sit route settling in the underneath hole, but it also works against man thanks to the natural rub and pick action created by the trips bunch. The primary read progression starts with the stick route in the flat-to-curl window, then works to the flat route for the leverage throw, and finally comes back to the backside dig if the trips side is taken away.
Pre-snap, check safety depth and alignment over the trips receivers since a rotated safety toward the trips side signals Cover 3 or Cover 4 match, which invites the stick sit throw. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if the underneath linebackers sink hard into the stick window, look immediately to the flat route for the easy pitch and catch. Post-snap, identify any user-controlled defender sitting in the shallow zone or lurking near the stick route, since a smart user will jump the sit route and bait the quick throw. Man coverage with no natural pick help shuts this down quickly, so if you see press man across the trips bunch with a robber safety, be ready to work the backside dig instead. Watch for a delayed blitz off the edge or interior since the quick game concept is designed to beat pressure, but a well-timed nano blitz can disrupt the timing before the stick route settles.
Use pre-snap motion or a shift to identify if the defense is sliding a linebacker or safety over the trips side before the snap.
If you see two deep safeties, expect Cover 2 or Cover 4 and prioritize the stick sit route in the seam-to-flat window since zone defenders will have conflicting run-flow assignments.
Against man coverage, trust the natural traffic from the trips alignment to spring the flat route open, and consider hot routing the backside receiver to a slant if you see man match concepts.
This play works best on second or third and short to medium since the stick route and flat combo give you a high-percentage completion window without needing a deep shot.
Pair Stick with China Under or Se Curl in the same set to keep defenders guessing between quick underneath throws and intermediate crossers, then mix in HB Draw or HB Dive to punish linebackers who sit too deep in coverage.
