26 Duo is a downhill power run out of Singleback Wing Tight Z, lining up with 13 personnel to create extra beef at the point of attack. The diagram shows the HB taking a hard aiming point toward the strong side gap, with the offensive line executing double team blocks at the point of attack before climbing to the second level, a hallmark of the Duo blocking scheme. This is not a man or zone beater in the passing sense, it is a gap displacement run play designed to beat base fronts and light boxes by out-leveraging linebackers with double teams. The primary read progression for the ball carrier is to press the initial hole, read the double team combo block up front, and cut off the first true displacement created by the OL.
Pre-snap, identify the linebacker depth and box count. A light box with linebackers at standard depth signals the double teams will win at the point of attack. Watch safety alignment before the snap. Single high shells with the safety rotated away from the strong side leave the second level vulnerable to the climbing double team blocks. Post-snap, key on whether the defensive line is two gapping or one gapping. Stout one gap fronts with disciplined linebackers reading the double team can constrict the running lane quickly. User-controlled defenders who shoot gaps aggressively or crash the mesh point can blow up Duo before the double team gets set, so watch for a user flying downhill at the snap. Heavy fronts with an extra man in the box, particularly eight man fronts or run blitzes stacking the strong side gap, are the primary defensive answer to this concept and should be countered with a play-action shot off this look.
Use 26 Duo on early downs, especially first and second and short to medium yardage, when you want to establish tempo and stay ahead of the sticks.
Check the box count pre-snap. Duo thrives against light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the box, since the double team blocks need numbers to climb to the second level cleanly.
If the defense shows a stacked front or an extra defender crashing downhill, consider hot routing your TE or motioning the H-back to adjust the strong side gap before the snap.
Pair 26 Duo with HB Counter Wk or HB Power O from the same set to keep linebackers guessing on gap direction while using identical formation and personnel to disguise your run tendencies.
Sequence 26 Duo with PA Boot Lt or PA Power O later in a drive to punish linebackers who start flowing hard toward the strong side after seeing Duo on tape.
