Mtn Y Poco is a motion-based post corner concept out of the Shotgun Y Off Trips Pats set, built to attack Cover 2 and man coverage with a stressed vertical shot. The Y receiver runs a post corner off the mountain motion, working the deep half against a rotating safety while the trips side floods underneath with crossing and flat routes to hold linebackers and clear the middle. Primary read starts with the Y post corner against the safety leverage, then progresses to the underneath crossers if the corner route is capped, making this a true man and Cover 2 beater rather than a zone-only design.
Pre-snap, identify the safety alignment on the Y receiver side, a deep half shell with the safety shaded toward trips signals Cover 2 and opens the post corner throwing lane. Watch for the cornerback trailing the Y motion man, if he stays attached through the motion it confirms man coverage and the post corner becomes a high value shot play. Post-snap, key the flat defender and any underneath lurk defender sitting on the trips side crossers, a squatting linebacker can jump the shallow routes and bait a bad read. This play struggles against Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with a deep third or quarter defender sitting directly in the post corner window, so check for that rotation before committing to the deep shot. Watch blitz timing off the edge, since the protection has to hold up for the deeper developing post corner route, a quick overload blitz or nano blitz can force an early checkdown before the route fully develops.
Use the pre-snap motion to identify man versus zone before the snap, if the defender follows the Y across the formation you have a clean man beater read on the post corner.
Attack this play on second and medium to second and long when defenses sit back in Cover 2 shells expecting a run or short passing concept.
If the safety jumps the post corner route, hot route the underneath crosser into a sit route to convert versus zone coverage and pick up a chain-moving gain.
Pair this call with Mtn HB Corner or Y-option Wheel earlier in a series so defenses start keying motion as a run tell, then punish that tendency with the deep post corner shot.
Watch the boundary safety depth at the snap, if he is shaded to the trips side pre-snap you should feel confident targeting the post corner window versus single high shells.
