I Form Close tightens the formation down to its most compressed look: the fullback stacked in front of the halfback, the tight end attached, and both wideouts pulled inside the numbers rather than split wide like I Form Pro or I Form Twin TE. That compression is the whole point. Squeezing the receivers in creates natural rub space for mesh and crossing concepts, shortens the throws on play action, and forces the defense to either walk corners into the box (opening the sideline) or leave them in press with no help outside leverage.
Establish the run first with Power O, Inside Zone, and HB Lead Dive so the play-action family (PA Boot Flow, PA Ctr Waggle, PA Throwback) actually pulls linebackers out of their zone drops.
Against single-high man, go straight to Mesh or PA Spider Mesh and hot route the fullback to a flat or angle route as your checkdown, then read the crosser away from the user-controlled defender.
Motion a receiver across the formation pre-snap to identify man versus zone, then adjust: keep the play if the defender travels (attack with Stutter Go's or Out N Up), or check to a mesh concept if it stays zone.
On short yardage and goal line, HB Iso, HB Lead Dive, and 95 Mike give you the downhill fullback lead, and PA TE Leak is the perfect counter once the defense sells out on the interior run.
When you see a defense loading the box or walking a corner down over the compressed receivers, throw Double Post or Y-Post at the vacated deep third and hot route the tight end vertical to occupy the free safety.
