I Form H Tight is the heavy personnel branch of the I Form family, running 22 personnel with two backs stacked behind the quarterback and both tight ends aligned tight to the line. Where I Form Tight Pair or I Form Close spread the receiving threats slightly wider, H Tight compresses everything inside the numbers, leaving a single split end isolated to the open side. That alignment forces the defense to either walk a safety down and commit to the run box or stay in a two high shell and get outnumbered at the point of attack. The fullback in the I gives you a true lead blocker for 26 Duo, HB Iso, and HB Power O, and the second tight end adds an extra gap that base defenses have to account for before the snap.
The passing menu off this set is built entirely on play action deception, which is the whole point of the personnel. PA Power O, PA Scissors, PA HB Wheel, and PA FB Slide all sell the same downhill run action you have already put on tape, and the boot concepts (Fake HB Zone QB Boot Lt and Fake HB Zone QB Bootlt) get the quarterback outside the pocket with the flat and crosser layered underneath. Because the defense is loading the box against 22 personnel, your isolated split end regularly gets single high man coverage with no help over the top, which is exactly the leverage you want for a streak or post hot route.
Mtn Mesh and Mtn Z Spot round out the dropback game with legitimate man beaters and zone beaters from a formation that reads as run first. Mesh rubs off the tight ends and wrecks man coverage underneath, while Z Spot gives you the classic curl, flat, corner triangle that sits down in Cover 3 and Cover 4 zone windows. The Gadget tag on this set means you also have trick looks available, so opponents who over commit to stopping the run between the tackles can be punished on any given snap.
Read the box before the snap: if the defense stays in two high with six in the box, run 26 Duo or HB Power O and take the numbers advantage. If a safety rotates down to single high, check to a play action shot with the split end hot routed vertical.
Use motion to declare coverage. Motion a tight end across the formation and watch whether a defender travels with him (man) or the box slides (zone), then pick between Mtn Mesh for man and Mtn Z Spot for zone.
Establish HB Stretch and HB Toss Crack early to widen the second level, which sets up the interior runs and makes the play action boots far more effective in the second half.
On short yardage and goal line, HB Iso and PA FB Slide are your money plays. The FB Slide is nearly free once you have shown the lead block on tape.
Against heavy blitz users, hot route the fullback to a flat or check release and slide protection toward the pressure side, then work the mesh or spot concept underneath the vacated zone.
