HB Iso out of I Form H Tight is a straight downhill power run play with 22 personnel on the field. The FB leads through the hole to isolate and pick off the first second-level defender, while the offensive line blocks straight ahead to seal the interior gaps. The HB reads the FB's block and follows him through the A or B gap, keying on the FB to determine the cutback lane. This is a pure run play designed to attack light boxes and beat aggressive downhill linebackers rather than a man or zone beater in the passing sense.
Watch linebacker depth before the snap, stacked or crashing linebackers signal the defense is selling out to stop this exact concept. This play struggles against gap-sound fronts with a strong safety cheating into the box, since the extra defender neutralizes the FB's isolation block. Look for user-controlled defenders shooting the A gap immediately after the snap, that indicates a nano blitz designed to blow up the mesh point before the FB can seal. Against odd fronts or 3-4 looks, the play can still hit if the nose tackle gets doubled, so track whether the center gets enough help before committing to the called side. If the defense stays in a two high shell with linebackers at normal depth, this play has a good chance to hit for positive yardage on the initial track.
Check the defensive box count before the snap, this play thrives against six man boxes or lighter since the FB handles the extra hitter.
Use the right stick or L2/LT to manually control the FB into the correct lane if the CPU logic whiffs on the isolation block.
Pair this with HB Power O and 26 Duo from the same H Tight set to keep defenders guessing between gap schemes and stretch concepts.
Best called on short yardage or early down situations where you want to establish tempo and force the defense to respect the run.
If the defense shows a heavy blitz look, consider audibling to PA HB Wheel or PA Power O to punish overaggressive linebackers crashing downhill.
