26 Duo out of I Form H Tight is a two back power run play built on a double team block scheme up front, using the FB as a lead blocker while the offensive line combo blocks the interior defensive linemen to create a vertical crease. This is not a man beater or zone beater in the passing sense since it is a straight run play with no play-action or RPO element attached. The primary read progression starts with the frontside double team at the point of attack, then works to the backside linebacker fill, letting the HB press the hole and cut off the first color he sees from the defensive front.
Pre-snap, count the box defenders and check if the Mike linebacker is stacked tight behind the double team gap, that tells you the defense is expecting inside run and will fill fast. Watch safety depth and rotation, a single high safety with the strong safety creeping down signals run support that can clog the Duo lane before the back presses it. Post-snap, key the backside linebacker flow, if he stays home instead of flowing hard with the double team he can cut off the cutback lane and blow up the design. User controlled defenders at Mike or Sam linebacker are the biggest threat here, a good user will shoot the gap before the double team locks on, so watch for early linebacker penetration. Base 4-3 or 3-4 fronts with two gap defensive tackles tend to hold up best against this play, while light boxes and nickel fronts with fewer than seven defenders in the box get overwhelmed by the double team push.
Run this from under center on early downs like first and ten or second and short to keep the defense honest against your play action shots later in the set.
Check the box count before the snap, if the defense stacks eight in the box with both safeties creeping down, consider audibling to PA Power O or PA Scissors to punish the aggression.
Use manual control on the FB to help finish the double team block or climb to the second level linebacker if the read dictates a quick handoff.
Pair this with HB Power O and HB Iso in your play calling sequence so the defense cannot key on one gap scheme, then hit them with Fake HB Zone QB Boot Lt once they start crashing down hard.
Against nickel or dime personnel with light boxes, hammer 26 Duo repeatedly since undersized fronts struggle to hold up against the double team push.
