94 Will is a power run play out of the I Form Close formation with 21 personnel, designed to hit off tackle to the strong side. The diagram shows the fullback leading through the hole with the HB taking the handoff and following him toward the will (weak) side gap, while the offensive line executes a power blocking scheme with the backside guard pulling to seal the edge. This is a base run concept, not a play-action or RPO, and the primary read for the ball carrier is to press the hole, read the fullback's lead block, and decide between the designated gap or bouncing outside if the edge defender gets sealed.
Defensive Reads
Watch the middle linebacker depth before the snap, since a linebacker sitting tight in the box signals an aggressive gap fit that can be exploited with a cutback if the fullback wins his block. Key the strong side defensive end and outside linebacker alignment, because a wide 9 technique or crashing end can blow up the off tackle lane and force the back to bounce outside. Zone coverages with two deep safeties tend to leave light boxes that this play can exploit for chunk yardage. Man coverage with a single high safety often stacks the box and brings extra run support, so expect quicker linebacker flow and less room to operate. Post-snap, track whether the strong safety triggers downhill immediately, since a fast trigger from depth can beat the lead block before the fullback squares up.
Usage Tips
Run this play on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage to stay ahead of the chains without becoming predictable. Check the defensive front before the snap and look for light boxes with six or fewer defenders, since power runs lose value against stacked eight man fronts. If the linebackers are creeping toward the play side pre-snap, consider audibling to HB Counter Wk or Zone Wk to attack the opposite gap. Pair this play with PA Ctr Waggle or PA Boot Flow later in a series once the defense starts keying on the fullback lead, since those plays sell the same backfield action before breaking off into passing routes. Use manual control on the fullback in short yardage to smash the lead block into the first threat and create a clean crease for the HB.
