Cheat HB Dive Wk is a run play out of Singleback Tight Y Off with 11 personnel that uses pre-snap motion to cheat the running back's alignment before the snap, shown by the red motion path crossing into the backfield. The blue arrow shows the HB Dive hitting the point of attack quickly and pressing straight downhill through the weak side of the line, relying on the offensive line to create a natural crease rather than a pulling scheme. This is a straightforward run play designed to attack light boxes and beat aggressive downhill linebacker flow with a quick hitting interior run.
Watch the linebacker depth before the snap since stacked linebackers sitting at five yards or closer can fill the dive lane immediately and blow up the run. If the defense flows hard to the motion side, this weak side dive can cut back into vacated space, so track second level pursuit angles. Nano blitzes or edge pressure schemes that crash inside will beat this play at the mesh point before the back can get to the line of scrimmage. Look for a defensive tackle shaded into the play side gap since a two gapping or slanting front can close the dive lane before it opens. Cover 1 or Cover 3 with man coverage on the perimeter tends to leave light boxes, making this a strong run call, while heavy Cover 4 or run blitz fronts with extra defenders in the box shut this play down.
Use the pre-snap motion to identify if the defense shifts a linebacker or safety down into the box, which tells you whether the defense is keying run before the snap.
This play works best against base 4-3 or 3-4 fronts with light boxes of six defenders or fewer, since the dive lane depends on the front not being overloaded.
Call this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when you want to stay ahead of the sticks without exposing yourself to a negative play.
Pair this with Fk Cheat HB Counter and Fk Cheat HB Stretch Wk since all three plays share the same cheat motion look, forcing the defense to respect multiple gaps off identical pre-snap movement.
If the defense loads the box after seeing the motion, be ready to switch to PA Cheat Cross or PA Cheat Post Cross out of the same set to punish overcommitment with a play-action shot.
