Drive Flood out of Singleback Tight Y Off (11 personnel) is a three-level flood concept to the strong side paired with a shallow drive route underneath. The outer receiver runs a deep comeback/flat breakoff, the slot runs a corner route that clears out to the sideline, and the inline TE runs a deep vertical seam splitting the two, while the backside route is a shallow drag crossing underneath from the opposite receiver. The HB checks release and runs a shallow flat route to the boundary side, giving a true three level stretch plus a checkdown. Primary read progression goes vertical seam first, then corner route on top, then settle to the underneath drag or HB flat if the deep routes are covered.
Defensive Reads
Watch the pre-snap safety alignment, a single high safety indicates Cover 3 and tells the QB the flood side corner route will stress the deep third defender. Check corner depth and outside leverage before the snap, soft corners playing off coverage invite the quick flat or drag throw underneath the coverage. Post-snap, track the flat defender's drop, if he sinks under the corner route the seam or drag becomes the answer since the underneath zone will be vacated. Look for a user controlled defender lurking in the shallow drag lane, this is the most common way to bait a turnover against this concept since QBs often stare down the drag as a checkdown. Cover 4 quarters shells with disciplined deep defenders can shut this down by squeezing both the seam and corner route, forcing the QB to rely on the drag or HB flat outlet.
Usage Tips
Use this play on second or third and medium when you need a defined horizontal stretch against zone shells.
Pre-snap, identify single high safety looks like Cover 3, this play is built to flood one side and put the deep third defender in conflict between the corner and seam routes.
If you see Cover 4 quarters, key the flat defender, the underneath drag or HB checkdown becomes the answer since the vertical routes will be capped by two deep defenders on that side.
Hot route the backside drag into a deeper dig if the defense shows heavy underneath zone coverage to the flood side, this keeps a vertical answer working away from the numbers.
Pair this with PA Flood or PA Fk Cheat Flood Crossers from the same set to disguise your intentions before the snap, since both attack similar flood zones but with different eye disciplines for the QB.
