Zone Fake Jet is a play-action pass out of Singleback Tight Y Off that sells jet sweep motion before the QB works a boot action to the flat. Defensive Reads
Check safety depth before the snap, a single high shell means the defense is more likely to respect the run action and jump the flat late. Watch for linebackers flowing hard with the jet motion, if they overcommit to the fake this play wins easily to the flat or underneath voids. Man coverage defenders who bite on the play fake will lose contain on the flat route, so look for corners squatting at the line versus those turning their hips early. Against zone drops, identify the flat defender and cloud corner, if they sit and read the QB's eyes instead of the motion they can undercut the route. Disciplined zone teams that keep their linebackers home despite the jet fake and rally a safety over the top will shut this concept down quickly.
Usage Tips
Run this on early downs when you have already shown actual Jet Sweep or PA Jet Sweep from this set to condition the defense to bite on the motion. Watch linebacker depth pre-snap, if they are creeping toward the line of scrimmage expecting run, this play punishes that aggression with the flat route working underneath. Use it on first and second down in run heavy personnel situations to keep the defense honest against your ground game. Pair it in a sequence with HB Dive or HB Stretch Wk to build the same visual look before mixing in this play action shot. Hot route the flat man deeper if you see cornerbacks sitting hard on short zones, turning it into more of a body throw against soft coverage.
