RPO Glance Post out of Shotgun Wing Slot Wk gives the QB a run-pass conflict read against the box while stacking a glance route underneath a post breaking to the deep half. The diagram shows the outside receiver stemming inside on a quick glance that settles as a hot key, while the slot runs a hard vertical stem before breaking into a post over the top, and the offensive line is covered up for inside zone with the running back on the give path through the B gap. This is an RPO built to punish light boxes and single high shells, with the primary read going from the run fit key to the glance and finally to the post if the defense sells out on the underneath throw.
Watch the alley defender or run support safety before the snap, if he is stacked tight to the box expect the offense to pull the ball and throw the glance immediately. Key the flow of the second level defenders at the snap, if linebackers step up hard on the zone action that opens the glance and post windows behind them. Cover 3 and Cover 1 shells with a single deep safety are the most vulnerable since the post route can split the safety once he commits to run support. Two high shells like Cover 2 or Cover 4 shut down the post lane and force the offense into the low value glance throw or the run, so sitting in a two safety look discourages the deep shot. User the underneath defender assigned to the glance area to jump the route, forcing the QB to hold the ball longer and eliminating the easy pre-read throw.
Read the second level defender the game highlights as your run key before the snap, if he sits inside or crashes down on the mesh point that is your green light to throw the glance immediately.
Use pre-snap motion or a quick alert to confirm if you are facing man or zone, the post is your money shot against single high looks like Cover 1 or Cover 3 where the safety has to respect run first.
Against two high shells, take the run more often since the numbers in the box usually favor inside zone and the post window shrinks with two deep defenders.
Pair this play with RPO Peek Post and RPO Peek Slant from the same set to keep defenders honest, alternating the glance and post reads so linebackers cannot sit on one route combo.
On third and short or second and manageable, favor the run key since defenses often play more honest fronts, saving the glance to post combo for third and medium when defenders bite on run action.
