Double Post lines up from Shotgun Wing Slot Wk with 12 personnel and attacks vertically with two stacked post routes on the boundary side. The outside receiver runs a deep post while the slot receiver behind him runs a shorter post, creating a natural high low read on any single deep safety, while the wing TE releases on a seam/corner route up the numbers and the backside receiver runs a short out to hold the flat defender. Defensive Reads

Watch the corner on the post side after the snap, if he sinks with the deep post the shallow post will settle in behind him for an easy completion. Identify the middle linebacker or hook defender's drop, if he widens to cover the seam route the shallow post window opens up even more. Beware of a single high safety rotating over the top, this indicates man coverage and can lead to the posts colliding into a defender sitting in the passing lane. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting in a lurk position over the shallow post, since that is the primary counter defenders use to jump this route in competitive play.

Usage Tips

Look for two high safeties pre snap since this play is designed to attack the seam between them on Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells.

If the defense shows single high man coverage, hot route the shallow post into a slant or dig to avoid the picks clogging the middle against man defenders.

Use this on second and long or third and medium situations where the defense is more likely to sit in zone coverage and give up the intermediate post window.

Pair this with RPO Peek Post or RPO Glance Post earlier in a drive so linebackers start cheating on peek reads, then hit them with the double vertical shot for an explosive gain.

Combine with Four Verticals in your call sheet since both plays punish the same Cover 2 and Cover 4 tendencies, forcing the defense to declare their safety rotation before you decide which concept to run.
