Mtn Shuffle Drive Choice is a shotgun route concept out of the Doubles Stack Clamp set that pairs a shuffle style drive concept on one side with a choice route on the backside, giving the quarterback access to both man and zone beating options. The stacked receivers create natural rub action to shake free defenders in man coverage, while the drive concept working underneath attacks the intermediate zones and linebacker drops. The primary read progression starts with the choice route to identify if the defender sits or bails, then works to the drive concept crossing underneath, and finally checks down to any shallow outlet if both are covered.
Watch the choice route defender at the snap, if he opens his hips early to run with the receiver you are in man and should trust the double move Check linebacker depth before the snap, shallow linebackers signal a blitz look or aggressive zone drop that can be exploited by the drive route sitting behind them Identify single high safety rotation post snap, this often means Cover 1 or Cover 3 where the choice route can win on a vertical stem against man leverage Look for a user controlled defender sitting in the shallow zone or lurking near the drive route, this is the biggest threat to this concept in zone coverage This play struggles against disciplined Cover 4 or Cover 6 shells where the safeties stay deep and the corners squeeze the choice route, forcing a quicker check to the drive concept
Presnap identify if the defense is showing two high safeties or a single high shell, since the choice route reacts differently against zone drops versus man leverage
Use the stack alignment to bait press corners into early jams, then let the rub concept naturally clear space for the drive route underneath
Hot route the drive route to a shallow drag if you are facing heavy underneath zone traffic from a Tampa 2 or Cover 3 sink
This play works best on second and medium or third and short since the drive concept settles into soft spots before the sticks
Pair this call with Mtn Rub Smash or Mtn Fk Rub earlier in a drive so the defense respects the rub action, then hit this choice concept when they start jumping the short routes
Against man coverage, key the choice receiver first since a hesitation or stutter at the top of the route usually means the defender bit on the double move
