Mtn Choice Go's Y-Shake is a man beater out of Shotgun Doubles Stack Clamp that pairs a choice route concept on one side with vertical go routes on the stack, while the Y runs a shake route working the middle of the field. The choice receiver reads the defender's leverage and breaks accordingly, giving you a built in answer against man coverage, while the go routes stretch the cornerbacks vertically to open up space underneath. Your primary read starts with the Y-shake in the shallow to intermediate window, then progresses to the choice route if the underneath defender jumps the shake, and finally to the go routes on a busted coverage or one-on-one matchup outside.
Check safety depth pre-snap, if both safeties are deep at eight yards or more it signals two high shell and the go routes will likely be capped, so plan on working the shake and choice underneath. Watch the cornerback press alignment on the stack, hard press with no safety help over the top means the go route can win immediately if you throw with anticipation. Post-snap, track the middle linebacker or user defender flowing to the Y-shake, if he bites hard on the shake it opens a throwing lane to the choice route breaking behind him. Zone coverage with a robber or lurk defender sitting in the shake's window will shut this concept down quickly, so identify that defender pre-snap and consider hot routing away from his zone. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge will pressure the quarterback before the go routes develop, so have a quick game plan to dump it to the shake or choice if you see overload blitz indicators pre-snap.
Motion the stack receivers pre-snap to confirm man versus zone before the snap, since the go routes only pay off if you get a true one-on-one matchup outside.
If the defense shows single high safety, lean on the Y-shake first because linebackers in man will struggle to mirror the breaks in space.
Hot route the choice receiver to a slant if you see a hard corner playing outside leverage, this removes the guesswork and speeds up your first read.
Use this play on early downs after running Mtn Rub Smash or Mtn Fk Rub to set up the defense expecting a quick underneath answer, then hit the go route deep for a explosive play once the corners start jumping the shorter routes.
Best in second and medium to second and long situations where you have room to let the go routes develop but still have a checkdown to the shake if the rush gets home.
