Check the safety alignment before the snap, since a single high safety usually means cover 3 and an open flood window on the sideline. Watch the flat defender post snap, since if he sinks with the intermediate route the flat route to the HB or outlet will be wide open underneath. Identify if the corner presses at the line, since press man coverage forces you to abandon the flood read and lean on the HB sneak or check-down instead. Look for a user controlled defender sitting in the intermediate zone, since that lurk threat is designed to jump the middle route and bait a turnover. Recognize blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge, since the play needs time to develop and a fast interior pressure will collapse the pocket before the flood routes fully clear.
Use pre-snap motion or a quick glance to identify if the defense is showing a single high safety, since that confirms a zone shell you can flood immediately.
